What is Cat Anorexia:

Cats Anorexia is one of the most common and serious health problems. Cat anorexia (or feline anorexia) is defined as a loss of appetite, or a significant and persistent decrease in appetite, compared to what they were before their illness started.

What Causes Anorexia:

When we are talking about cats there were two types of anorexia nervousa:
1. cats refuse to eat due to medical conditions
2. psychological disorder that causes self-starvation.

Since anorexia means a loss of appetite, anorexic cats will eat less than usual or stop eating entirely. Anorexia is a nonspecific term symptom associated with various medical conditions and pathologies.

Cats with anorexia may have gastrointestinal (IG) disease, which may show signs of abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, breathing difficulties, weight loss, lethargy and decrease appetite. In those, cases a veterinarian will treat the condition to get the cat to eat again.

If your cat still refuses to eat and drink, symptoms may become more serious and show signs of infections such as discharge of pus or blood and sudden changes in behavior. This may need earnest attention and require medical intervention to promote general examinations and to sustain the animal until the specific treatment takes effect.

But how can we treat this disease? Researchers show that observing cats with anorexia must study the case and the available information including the cat’s medical history.

For example, heat medication for a heart condition, or a prescription diet for digestion issues. Regardless of the underlying cause, The care and support should be implemented until a cats appetite returns to prevent complications and risk.
